I know watching Tinker Bell isn't the job of a grown man but before you question my sanity let me say that this has been one of the hits of 2014.
Indeed, it has been at multiplexes longer than many of the Oscar winners or nominees.
So, it was high-time that I overcame my natural aversion to film fairies and got on with reviewing Peggy Holmes' movie.
And, at risk of becoming the butt of considerable ridicule, I have to say that I can see why parents and their children have been so besotted by Tink and her pals.
The film's premise is that one inquisitive fairy, Zarina (voiced by Christina Hendricks), wants to see if she can extend the powers of fairy dust.
Sadly, things go badly pear-shaped when she starts to create new mixtures with the magical dust and after one particular disaster, she is banished from Pixie Hollow.
A year later she returns, having turned into the captain of a pirate ship, to lead a dastardly crew in trying to steal some life-enhancing blue fairy dust.
Did I just write that? Apparently, so.
Anyway, a team, led by Tink (Mae Whitman) sets out to stop the pirates who include an Eton-educated David Cameron-lookalike (Tom Hiddleston).
Let's face it, this wasn't the most taxing 78 minutes I have spent this year but I can see why little girls across the planet will love it and, therefore, why it is still in cinemas, two months after its release.
And to be blunt, I've seen a lot worse (e.g. most movies starring Adam Sandler or Bruce Willis)
