It has taken me a ridiculous amount of time to realise that Pierce Brosnan can't act.
Over the years I've watched him as Remington Steel and James Bond and in films such as Mama Mia!, A Long Way Down and now The Love Punch.
And only on Saturday night did it dawn on me that he is the same person in all of them.
Ok, it is true that he tries to ham it up more during comedies but, in essence, there is very little more to him, as an actor, than a handsome fizzog.
Thus, while watching The Love Punch, I couldn't help feeling a bit sorry for Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall and Celia Imrie - all top actors.
It reminded me of an interview in which Thompson was asked about her co-star in the film Junior, in which she appeared 20 years ago.
She had said how much she enjoyed playing in the movie but when posed the question "Can Arnold Schwarzenegger act?", she replied, candidly: "Of course not."
I wonder if she would say the same about Brosnan who, in Joel Hopkins's film, plays her ex-husband.
They join forces when his firm is bought out by an unscrupulous Frenchman (Laurent Lafitte) who runs it down and effectively robs the staff of their pensions.
Thus, Brosnan and Thompson set off for Paris, later joined by Spall and Imrie, to exact revenge.
To be fair, despite the daftness of the storyline, I laughed four times and I counted six giggles from Mrs W, but these moments of hilarity were swamped by way too much cheese.
I have loved Emma Thompson for more years than I care to remember so I loathe being unkind to one of her movies but this didn't make me feel as good as she had suggested in her publicity interviews.
In fact, it was all a bit stilted. Was that the fault of Brosnan or the director? It's hard to say.
