SUPER DUPER ALICE COOPER
Cert 15
98 mins
BBFC advice: Contains drug references, strong language
Be honest, how many Alice Cooper songs do you know apart from School's Out?
Cooper has become a household name across the world for his outrageous make-up and stage antics more than for the success of his music.
Indeed, giving the name Alice to a grotesquely made-up, Mr Hyde-style character made him unforgettable.
This documentary, directed by Sam Dunn, Reginald Harkema and Scot McFadyen, reveals how plain Vince Furnier, the non-drinking, church-going son of a preacher, ended up as Alice, the world-famous rock star.
It charts Cooper's life from his childhood and near-death appendicitis, through to the present day.
It takes in the creation of his first bands and from where the name Alice Cooper came to their eventual success and his subsequent descent into alcoholism and drug addiction.
And, of course, it moves on to where Cooper is today.
There is some wonderful footage to accompany Super Duper Alice Cooper and narration comes from Cooper himself as well as friends, fellow band members and family.
It is a deeply honest piece of work in which Cooper is self-critical about decisions made in his life.
But it is also a rather splendid portrait of an old-fashioned rock icon with many compliments as well as condemnations.
It's a shame that it is only being shown for one night in UK cinemas. Go catch it tonight (Tuesday April 22).
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: none
