LEGENDS OF OZ: DOROTHY'S RETURN

BBFC advice: Mild threat, scary scenes

Crikey it's been a busy week. So much so, that I simply haven't had the opportunity of writing up my everyfilm reviews.
So, I am searching my memory for my thoughts on Will Finn and Dan St. Pierre's animation which I saw at Vue Cinema in Leicester last Sunday morning (fortunately there were only two mothers and daughters in the auditorium).
The story is a follow-up to the original Wizard Of Oz and sees Dorothy (Lea Michele) return to the Emerald City after it is taken over by the wicked witch's brother, an evil jester (Martin Short).
Dorothy is back home in Kansas when she receives and urgent message from the Scarecrow (Dan Aykroyd), the Lion (James Belushi) and The Tin Man (Kelsey Grammer), who believe that she will be able to save the city from ruin.
However, this being Oz, there are many barriers and, consequently adventures, between Dorothy and the Emerald City.
Any incarnation of Oz has a certain charm to those of us who have grown up with the original story and this is no exception.
But the animation is a tad clunkier than might have been expected and, because it is focused on a very young audience, it loses the power of the original which could, at times, be rather scary.
