One of my favourite documentaries in recent years was Restrepo - in which the film-makers were embedded for a year with a company of soldiers in the Korengal valley in Afghanistan.
Restrepo was so different because it was so personal. The interviews with the soldiers were honest and the firefight action was incredibly intense.
Since Restrepo there have been a number of documentaries which have covered similar ground without being as good.
There have also been dramas which have explored the intensity of life at the frontline of conflicts such as those in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Thus, I didn't really see the point of a sequel to Restrepo which gives the impression of being little more than the cutting room floor footage of the original movie.
Because the same officers are interviewed, the same points are made and, therefore, surprises are few.
But Sebastian Junger's film, in isolation is very good.
So, if you haven't seen Restrepo, and are interested in the psychological aspects of warfare as well as seeing the Afghan conflict close-up, this could be for you.
However, I would still recommend Restrepo.
