Pity poor Amrita Acharia. I have seen her interviewed about I Am Yours and she admits that her character 'infuriated' her.
Nevertheless, hats off to the Game Of Thrones star - she excels as the feckless actress in Iram Haq's tough family drama.
I Am Yours surrounds Mina, a single mother who is yearning for love but has split from her husband (Assad Siddique) and has followed him with a catalogue of unsuitable boyfriends.
However, instead of trying to rebuild her life, she just keeps making the same mistakes over and over.
This has considerable cost - her pursuit of men means that she not only risks her relationship with her son (Prince Singh) but also being cut off by her parents.
There is a strong element of east meets west in Haq's film. Mina's parents are traditional Pakistanis while she is very much a westerner (she lives in Norway).
Therefore, she is on collision course with her overbearing mother (Rabia Noreen) who cares more about saving face in her community than she does for her daughter's well-being.
The problem is that Mina makes a rod for her own back by her erratic behaviour.
Acharia beautifully portrays a woman who is desperately trying to find herself and fulfill dreams which are beyond her reach.
Haq's direction means that the audience's attention is held tight.
Amrita Acharia: Mina is a very unstable, self destructive character, so it was intense going into a chaotic psyche day after day. I do find the most challenging scenes the most rewarding though. Especially with a character whose actions often infuriated me.
Reasons to watch: Excellent performance by Amrita Acharia who elicits empathy despite her character's flaws.
Reasons to avoid: It's a family drama in which, ultimately, there is not that much action.
