UNFINISHED BUSINESS
Cert 15
91 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong language, sex, sex references, nudity, drug use
Vince Vaughn really is a lucky guy to have made such huge amounts of money from Hollywood.
I will admit that he has made a couple of movies which have pleasantly surprised me but only because his name is synonymous with turkeys.
Unfinished Business falls into the latter category.
And as the small crowd dispersed from Nottingham Cineworld, I was hearing conversations among the patrons which confirmed I wasn't on my own with this appraisal.
Unfinished Business is directed by Ken Scott, the man behind Delivery Man, a film which I have seen in four different guises (Canadian, American, French and Bollywood).
I suspect his success in attracting other cultures to his work will not be repeated here.
Vaughn plays his usual character - a warm-hearted and well-meaning man, struggling to get his act together.
In this case, he is a salesman who goes it alone after being told by his boss (Sienna Miller) that his pay is about to be cut.
He sets up a firm alongside a fun-loving old stager (Tom Wilkinson) and a rookie (Dave Franco) who is borderline autistic.
Wilkinson hams up it to decent effect while Franco is stuck with an unfunny running gag surrounding his character's name (Mike Pancake).
And then there is Vaughn. He rah-rah-rahs and perseveres despite falling at fence after fence.
But the problem with Unfinished Business is that its premise is dull and its big scenes have The Hangover-style aspirations but fall way short.
As for Vaughn... we've seen it all before....
Vince Vaughn: "I think there is just something really fun about the situation. The stakes are very real... but going on the trip and the challenges the characters have to face are fun."
Reason to watch: Tom Wilkinson's dirty old man character
Reasons to avoid: So many - another lame Vince Vaughn comedy
Laughs: two
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: yes
Overall rating: 3/10
