WILD TALES (RELATOS SALVAJES)
Cert 15

BBFC advice: Contains strong bloody violence, sex, strong language

Isn't it uncanny how films can reflect real life?
The opening short story in Damian Szifron's Wild Tales collection surrounds the fate of a plane at the hands of a renegade pilot.
It was released in the week of the tragic air crash which appears to have been perpetrated by Andreas Lubitz in the Alps.
Szifron has put together six short films which have a central theme of revenge.
The first is set on a plane, the second at an isolated diner, the third focuses on a road rage incident, the fourth surrounds a battle against a company which tows cars, the fifth centres on a rich family's reaction to a hit and run and the sixth is set at at a crazy wedding.
Set in Argentina, they are superbly constructed, each having a web of twists and turns.
In fact, it is probably the best collection of shorts I have seen.
However, I will not write any more because I would potentially spoil the neatly framed storylines. Suffice to say, they are well worth watching.

Director Damian Szifron: "The stories are connected by a series of themes that provide unity and coherence; they are all about catharsis, vengeance and destruction. And the undeniable pleasure of losing control."

Reasons to watch: Thoroughly engaging and well-constructed, if deliberately short, stories
Reasons to avoid: The time of each segment doesn;t allow for much character exploration.
