No normal person would bother watching a sequel to a film which they had not enjoyed.
But this is the everyfilm 'challenge' and I think I have proved that I am far from normal when it comes to watching movies,
So, with a heavy heart, Mrs W and I found ourselves catching Ride Along 2 at Nottingham Cineworld on Saturday evening.
And I have to report that Tim Story's picture met our expectation. In our opinion it was predictable and dull.
However, belly laughs from the audience gave evidence that younger people have a completely different view of Kevin Hart's motormouth humour.
Here, Hart plays a probationary cop who tags along on an undercover investigation, led by his future brother-in-law (Ice Cube) in Miami where the pair cross swords with a ruthless criminal (Benjamin Bratt) who uses the cloak of a legitimate businessman.
On their side is a beautiful local detective (Olivia Munn) and an eccentric whistleblower (Ken Jeong).
Predictably, the plot consists of calamitous cock-ups, intense car chases and the last-chance bid by our intrepid pair to convince their bosses that they are not totally useless.
The characters are stereotypical with Hart playing the fool and Ice Cube the hardman. Meanwhile, Bratt is the archetypal crime-comedy villain.
Basically, it was all done ten times better in Beverly Hills Cop 30 years ago. In my view Hart tries his hardest to be a modern-day Eddie Murphy but without the originality.
His twitter handle says in capital letters that he has worked hard for his fame. I don't doubt his success and that he seems like a decent fella.
I just don't understand how his humour has been so successful.
