CAPTURE THE FLAG
Cert PG

BBFC advice: Contains mild bad language, mild threat

Six-film Saturday was the best of any in the five years of everyfilm.co.uk .
And here I have to mention the continued support of Mrs W in my endeavours, She watched five of the films and drove to Birmingham and back to enable me to watch a sixth on itunes,
Anyway, our day began at 10.10am at Cineworld Birmingham where we asked for two tickets for Capture The Flag and the now regular "Do you know it's a cartoon?" question came in response.
The lady behind the counter looked rather baffled when I said: "Yes, we watch every film that is released."
Anyway, she produced the tickets and off we went for an hour and a half of breezy animation, thanks to director Enrique Gato.
In my opinion, this is a movie for ages four to ten so it is important we look at it through a child's eyes otherwise it would be easy to pick fault.
For example, there is an important scene when astronaut uniforms for two schoolchildren appear from nowhere and Mrs W and I turned to each other and rolled our eyes.
Would children have spotted such a gaffe? I doubt it.
This wasn't the only moment of corniness in a movie which has a good heart and a fast-flowing plot but doesn't worry too much about finesse.
Its premise is that a young surfer (voiced by Carme Calvell) rallies his best friends (Michelle Jenner and Javier Balas) to bring together his estranged dad (Toni Mora) and grandad (Camilo Garcia) and, simultaneously, stop a billionaire (Dani Rovira) convincing the world he is the first man on the moon.
Hold on a minute, I hear you cry. Surely, everyone knows that the Americans were the first on the moon?
Yes and no. The billionaire is rich and powerful enough to have persuaded many folk that the 1969 moon landing was a fake.
Anyway, our hero's grandad was an astronaut at the time and his dad is one now but neither have been to the moon.
Yes, you can tell where this is going. The race to the moon is on.
And there are many of the usual cartoon cliches: the fat lad who is a technical wizard, the cute kiddy romance and the mum who is the voice of sanity.
Oh, and the over-the-top panto-style villain.
But, hey, the kids do good and there's the fun of a bit of space exploration.
And we could hear children in the audience laughing.

Reasons to watch: breezy comedy with laughs for the kids
Reasons to avoid: serious viewers will laugh at the plot holes

Laughs: a couple of chuckles from us, more from the kids
Jumps: none
Vomit: yes
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 6.5/10
