EVERYTHING ABOUT HER

BBFC advice: Contains infrequent strong language
Second up of the six-movie Saturday marathon was Filipino box office hit Everything About Her at Vue Cinema, Star City in Birmingham.
This is the second time within a few weeks that Vue has taken on a mainstream Filipino film and, by the look of a healthy audience in screen 29, the investment is paying off.
A quick glance on Twitter reveals that Everything About Her has been a phenomenon in the Philippines with huge queues at cinemas throughout the country.
We in the West would think of it as a warm if predictable weepie which probably would have had middling success if it had been British or American.
Nevertheless, its heart is very much in the right place and it was good to be introduced to the talents of its three central actors, Vilma Santos, Angel Locsin and Xian Lim.
Santos plays a businesswoman, Vivian Rabaya, who has a reputation for ruthlessness and rudeness but she suddenly becomes vulnerable for the first time in her life when she is diagnosed with aggressive cancer.
She pays for a full-time nurse, Jaica (Locsin), forcing her to vow not to reveal her condition to anyone.
But Jaica has her own mind and goes against her new employer's wishes to bring the latter's estranged son (Xian Lim) back home.
This prompts emotions to flow from every imaginable direction.
As said, Joyce Bernal's movie boasts a decent cast and Mrs W and I were particularly taken with Locsin who has a real spark as Jaica.
But, ultimately, it doesn't score that highly because it follows a well-worn path and its conclusion was predictable within the first 20 minutes.
Reasons to watch: decent weepie
Reasons to avoid: predictable conclusion
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: yes
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 6.5/10
