EXPOSED
Cert 15
100 mins
BBFC advice: Contains strong blood violence, sexual violence, strong language
It is only a few months since Ana De Armas was throwing her naked body at Keanu Reeves in Knock Knock.
Therefore, the very name Exposed led me to believe there might be more of the same during Declan Dale's film.
Not so. Butter wouldn't melt in the mouth of the good Catholic girl she portrays here.
She plays Isabel, a naive young woman who has ghostly visions but is believed to be the key to finding the identity of the killer of a police officer.
The cop's partner (Reeves) is a tortured soul who is determined to track down the murderer but is up against obstacles in his own department.
If my synopsis makes Exposed seem rather exciting let me clarify - it is not. In my opinion, it is a muddled mess of a movie.
Firstly, it jumps all over the place, throwing in completely irrelevant detail but it is also so slow in its delivery that when the denouement came I really didn't care.
Reeves has played these little-boy-lost roles so often that he seems to sleepwalk his way through many of his movies.
Exposed throws in a bag of cliches surrounding police corruption and gang culture without ever delving deep enough into either subject.
Meanwhile, the ghostly sightings of De Armas' character just add bewilderment on to the confusion.
Reasons to watch: Ana De Armas is pretty and perplexed
Reasons to avoid: its lack of focus means it is a mess
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: yes
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 3.5/10
